FAQ’s

Do I need a trial before my wedding?

My answer would always be YES! Please see more information on the trial section of this website. Trials take place in Goole, East Yorkshire at Brows & Base Beauty Studio, 21 paradise place, DN14 5DL. Parking is available near to the salon in the square or there is a free car park down estcourt street a five minute walk from the salon. I require brides to travel to me for this, please allow approximately 2 hours for your trial appointment. Payment for trials is to be paid at the time of the trial. Trials are held weekdays only.

Do you have a minimum/maximum amount of people for wedding bookings?

Kelsey welcomes bridal bookings of any size, however the bridal package is in place to cover hairstyling services for up to 5 persons. This means that the set fee remains the same but its up to you whether its for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 persons.

My maximum amount of people for hairstyling is 7 people, more than this would require an additional stylist.

Do you provide hair extensions?

I do not provide hair extensions but I am happy to add these into your hairstyles. My advice for wedding days is to purchase 100% real human hair clip in seamless extensions. I advice clip ins because I can put them wherever I need them on the day whether this is an up-do or a down style. I would try to avoid semi-permanent extensions such as nano rings or tapes because these are set in place and cannot be moved and sometimes are too close to the hairline. With these types of extensions I cannot get to the roots with products or backcombing and it can be hard to hide the bonds sometimes due to placement. My first choice would be clip ins because I can make them work best for the hairstyle and also you can use them again for other occasions. Take a look at:

Please wash and blow dry hair extensions prior to trial/wedding day even if they are fresh out the packet. If they have not been washed they are too silky and don’t hold the curl as well.

Do you supply accessories?

I absolutely adore accessories in bridal hair I think they can tie the whole look together. I would suggest buying an accessory after your trial once you have decided on the look you want, accessories are available to try at the trial appointment but are to be supplied by yourself for your wedding day and you can keep it forever.

Do you share your work on social media?

I will share all my best work on social media as this allows me to show future brides all the lovely hairstyles I’ve created. I do love to see your professional photos after the day so I would love for you to share them with me. If you do not wish for me to use your photos please tell me in advance, or if you change your mind in the future please let me know in writing, and I will gladly have them removed.

What time should I expect to start?

On wedding mornings expect an early start, hair styling can commence as early as 6am, I will be there on your wedding morning approximately ten minutes before due to start to set up my kit. This will be discussed early on in your wedding booking so you are informed. If your wedding requires an earlier or later start we can discuss this during your booking. I will advise you on the optimum time to start depending on the time of your ceremony.

How Do I prepare for before we start?

Your hair should be:

  • Recently washed, and not greasy or oily
  • Dry and not wet or damp
  • Dried with a hairdryer to eliminate frizz - do not let the hair dry naturally
  • Product free - unless product is used for frizz/natural curls

Your should have:

  • Inspiration photos similar to your hair colour saved to your phone ready to show the stylist
  • Wear clothing you can easily change to get into your outfit

Do you offer makeup services?

No, I do not do makeup as I specialise in bridal hair but I am really lucky to work alongside amazing makeup artists on wedding mornings and I am happy to recommend one that can create your dream bridal look.

How long do I need to allocate for wedding hair?

This is dependant upon the size of the bridal party. However for a bridal party of 5 people the minimum amount of time for styling is 5 hours plus an additional one hour before the ceremony (6 hours total). Please bare this in mind with the ceremony time. For example if you have a 1pm ceremony, hairstyling will begin at 7am to be ready by 12pm (one hour before). This is an example, all timings will be personalised to each bridal party.

Do you arrange a second stylist?

When enquiring with me and providing me with the number of people for hairstyling and ceremony time, I will inform you if I am able to do this alone or you would benefit from a second hairstylist for a more seamless, less rushed morning. I do not arrange a second stylists for my brides as stylists have their own contracts and policies and therefore it is required for you to arrange this. However, I am happy to give you a list of amazing recommendations who you can contact to be a part of the team on your special day.

Do you get involved In photoshoots?

Yes absolutely, I love been involved in creative projects and its great for me to meet other wedding suppliers. I have been involved in shoots at Bunny-hill weddings, Hirst priory, Thirsk lodge barns and other beautiful locations.

Do you do any other sort of events?

I offer hair styling for weddings, bridal showers, christenings, proms, baby showers, balls, races & any other events.

Does Hair by Kelsey have professional insurance?

Yes, I am fully insured for both public liability insurance and professional indemnity.

Have you got any tips for a seamless wedding morning?

From working many wedding mornings I have created a list of useful tips for a more seamless wedding morning.

  • Steam dresses the night before, steam drops hairstyles due to the moisture.
  • Inform bridal party members to have hair inspiration saved to their phones, there often isn’t great signal at wedding venues.
  • Follow the hair prep- if any tip is essential its this one.
  • Have an uplifting bridal playlist for you and your bridal party to listen to whilst getting ready.
  • Be ready one hour before the ceremony to enjoy a glass of fizz and photos with your bridal party.
  • Delegate jobs to bridesmaids
  • Make sure your bridal party are all ready to have their hair and makeup done on time.
  • Have everything to hand for your photographer as they will want things for a flat lay like perfume, shoes etc and your more than likely to be in a glam chair at this point.

I have a lot of tips for wedding mornings and I can’t wait to talk all things weddings at your bridal trial.
